The sun is out and vaccination seem to go ahead nicely, however, some of us still might be confused about the wear of masks. Should we keep wearing them and how do they prevent the spread of the virus ?

Can wearing a face mask prevent coronavirus from spreading?

Yes, face masks help prevent the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. 

According to the WHO (World Health Organisation) « Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission and save lives ». 

It means that wearing a mask alone isn’t proven to protect fully against the virus but needs to be part of a list of precautions that will, applied together, drastically protect us and others and slow down the spread of COVID-19. 

Those precautions include physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue. Check local advice where you live and work.

Your mask should cover your face from the bridge of your nose to under your chin. It should be loose fitting but secure enough to stay in place.
